This past week, I was in awe of my family, especially all my sisters.
Earlier in the year, I wrote about my oldest sister being found after we had lost contact with her for over two years.
Last month, all three of my sisters visited her in Arizona and spent a few days with her to ensure she was okay.
Then, this past weekend, two of my sisters spent time with my wife and me in Alabama.
The third sister was willing to travel as well; however, I politely declined.
The jet lag from Arizona to Alabama hadn’t even had time to work on their circadian rhythm for two of my sisters.
I believe you never know how God can work in mysterious ways.
I see family as an important part of life.
We hear it all the time at funerals when people gather.
There was no funeral, just a gathering of support for one another.
Many of us know dysfunctional families, and although I was in Tampa, Florida, during their visit to Arizona, I am humbled to have their support here in Alabama.
There is nothing dysfunctional about my sisters. (For Real-For Real)
I’m also humbled by the support of those outside my immediate family this past week.
As a caregiver, I know I can’t do it all, and when people step in to help, it’s a blessing.
There will always be days when we don’t expect our health to change, and when it does, it’s a blessing to know family and friends are there to support you.
As normalcy begins, I’m humbled by my family and friends for their support,
I couldn’t go this week without writing to thank my family and friends personally for their support.
Today, I challenge you to reflect on your family and how they support you when you need it the most.

“Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.” — Michael J. Fox

McKinley,
Family is a precious commodity that we should always value and cherish. I think everyones knows the highs and lows of having love ones in our lives. The highs are what we concentrate on, family is always there when we need them.
Scott,
Greetings,
Without a doubt, “Family is a precious commodity.” You spoke of highs and lows, and many times we forget about both.
Thank you for adding value today.

Good morning CM! This blog hit home as I had a cousin come into town for work this past weekend. We hadn’t seen each other in over ten years other than a social media post. However, the time was filled with great dinner at an Italian restaurant, breakfast at one of my favorite spots in town, but most of all there was a lot of love expressed. Additionally, we reflected on our childhood, parenting, and what impacted how we see our role as men.
Fun Fact: We share the same birthday.
“Great time!”
Terrance,
Always an honor to get your feedback. I’m humbled that what I wrote resonated with you.
I pray that the memories you shared with your cousin will last for a while.
Many blessings to you.
CM
Beautiful reflection, Big Brother! Family is a true blessing. So thankful you are my brother. Love you so much.
Lisa
Lisa,
Thank you so much for being here this weekend. Much love to you!
Your Big Brother
Family is everything. Every day we wake up is another chance to love, cherish, and celebrate them. Lord teach us how to show & share this Love every day. (Foe Real-For Real)
Ms. Hattie,
Your words are powerful. All too often we don’t do enough to celebrate family. I will not let your words fall on deaf ears.

McKinley,
I had not heard the quote by Desmond Tutu: “You do not choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.” That is an awesome perspective. If we keep that is mind, it will make it easier to overlook any perceived slights or transgressions and to reflect instead on whether or not we are being the “gift” to our family members that we should strive to be.
Sam,
Greetings,
Today you and I probably know of many dysfunctional families. I believe what Desmond Tutu said is important in letting things go. “You do not choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.” Your comments are spot on.
