Pet Peeves

Pet Peeves

Do you have any pet peeves that evoke a specific emotion when they happen?

For me, it’s finding a dirty piece of silverware in the drawer when I get ready to use it.

Early on in life, before the automatic Dishwasher was a household commodity, my sisters and I took turns washing dishes growing up.

As the oldest male, we all had chores; however, if my dad, God, rest his soul, found a dirty dish, it was another week of duty washing dishes.

Cleanliness was how we operated in our home.  I remember as a child growing up, we were not allowed to eat in our rooms either, it was another precautionary measure to ensure the roaches had nothing to eat.

I don’t know how small things like finding something dirty still evoke those memories today.

This past weekend, as I assisted my daughter in moving from one state to another, I noticed another pet peeve: the rudeness of others.

My first encounter was getting Pizza when my Grandson and I walked into an established Pizza facility.   It was his rudeness of not even showing kindness or protocol by at least giving some greeting.  Instead, the man said, “Did you get my order in the oven yet?”

The second was going to a local home improvement to get some extra keys made for my daughter.  The rudeness came when I witnessed a middle-aged lady trying to back out of the parking lot with cars either pulling in or backing out simultaneously.

I’m sure we’ve all been in these situations once or twice, and just when we think the coast is clear be back out only to find another car pulling in or out after trying for five minutes.

That’s probably why the majority of the time, I back in instead of pulling in head first.  Nonetheless, it was a bad situation.

Because I was able to see the entire incident, I noticed a driver yelling explicit words when all she said is I’m just trying to get out of the parking lot.

In both cases, both individuals showed rudeness.

We called some of this home training; however, because I could be somewhat biased in both incidents, they were just thugs.

How we treat individuals in this world is essential to me.

The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule: Treat Others the Way You Want to Be Treated – Effectiviology

The golden rule is a moral principle that denotes that you should treat others how you want to be treated. For example, the golden rule means that if you want people to treat you with respect, you should also treat them with respect.

Do you remember being taught the Golden Rule and how you live today?

I did make it a point to share my comments with my daughter yesterday about being careful in your new location.

I’m sure, as humans, some things disgust you in certain situations. Rudeness is one of them, especially when it’s unwarranted.

As you begin this week, be kind to others.  I like what the unknown author says about his goal.  “My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am.”

What about you?
